The Broncos will kick off their home preseason with a game against Green Bay at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday night, continuing their quest for starting positions and roster spots.

Denver began the preseason with a 34-30 victory at Indianapolis last Sunday, with most starters playing around 20 snaps. Expect to see the starters get more playing time against the Packers, although Green Bay is likely to rest many of their first-team players.

Here are three key things to watch for the Broncos:

1. **Rookie Quarterback Competition**: Bo Nix will start at quarterback, and a strong performance could secure him the starting role for the season opener against Seattle on September 8. Jarrett Stidham will come in as the second quarterback, and Zach Wilson will be the third. While Stidham has been contending with Nix for the starting spot, he now faces the challenge of keeping Wilson at bay for the backup role. The final decision on whether the Broncos will keep two or three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster remains to be seen.

2. **Position Battles**: Several key position battles are ongoSubscribeing. Damarri Mathis and Riley Moss are vying for the starting right cornerback position, though Levi Wallace, who is sidelined for his second consecutive preseason game with a hamstring injury, is also a contender. Cody Barton and Jonas Griffith are competing for the starting inside linebacker role. Additionally, the punting competition between Riley Dixon and Trenton Gill will continue.

3. **Roster Cuts and Strategy**: As the August 27 deadline for roster cuts approaches, many positions are still up for grabs. Broncos coach Sean Payton mentioned that there are 60 to 61 players vying for the 53 available spots. Those who are cut may be considered for the practice squad. The Broncos may strategically keep some younger players on the main roster if they believe they won't make it through waivers and onto the practice squad.
